Sculpting New York - Non Surgical Fat Reduction & Laser Surgery New York (NY)

Juvederm in New York City by Dr. Cameron Rokhsar

Juvederm is a safe, effective and natural hyaluronic acid filler.  Because hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in the skin and the product is non-animal based, there is no need for allergy testing before the procedure.

Aging not only occurs at different rates in different individuals, but also on different areas of the body. While no one can prevent aging, there is a variety of non-invasive approaches that are becoming the preferred treatments of choice because they can ensure optimal aging by reducing the effects of volume loss, sagging skin and sinking appearance without the necessity of surgery. The face ages very specifically with a combination of bone, fat, collagen and elastin loss, which results in sagging and sinking of the skin and wrinkle formation.

Tight, firm facial skin is a distinct sign of youth, while the sagging of skin is a known sign of aging. Aging skin loses its elasticity and has difficulty bouncing back, characterized by definition loss along the jaw line, droopy eyes and cheeks, and the development of jowls.

Juvederm Before & After

Because hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, it forms well into the injection site and there is a low-chance of rejection. It is found most highly concentrated in the eyes and joints and acts as a cushion and hydrating mechanism. As a natural complex sugar that attaches itself to water, hyaluronic acid has the ability to absorb more than one-thousand times its own weight. The combination of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin provides a powerful structure within the skin. This directly results in a rehydrating appearance while providing an evenness and enhancement in facial contours. Juvederm has a smooth gel consistency and is ideal for lip enhancement and naturally filling in wrinkles and deep lines.

For those that are surgery averse but wish they could slow down the aging process, there is a wide variety of treatments to treat sinking skin such as simple filler injections. Fillers are specifically designed injectable substances used to replace lost volume due to aging. Each filler is designed for each particular cosmetic goal, whether it’s to treat hollowed-out under eye bags, deep wrinkles, thin lips, sagging jowls or flattening cheeks.

Fillers are ultimately designed for patients who are ambivalent about a surgical facelift, for those would rather improve their appearance with a non-invasive approach, or for the busy individual who doesn’t have time for long procedures or the recovery time that follows. Smooth cheeks and fresh faces are attainable and don’t have to be lost to older age and the natural effects of time. Technology has come a long way for cosmetic treatments, and non-surgical options are increasingly in demand because of their promising youth replenishing effects.

The newest filler injection to provide patients with a smooth correcting tool is Belotero. Belotero is a hyaluronic acid based filler much like Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm. These dermal fillers differ in the way their molecules are cross linked, granting each one a unique strength that makes some better at treating certain wrinkles and augmentations than others. Radiesse is a calcium based filler used to augment nose, cheekbone and chin features.

Another filler injection used to prevent the effects of aging is Sculptra, which is primarily composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a naturally occurring substance that works by restoring collagen into the deeper layers of the skin. Overtime Sculptra will stimulate collagen production that will allow for a gradual and natural skin enhancement. Collagen is a key protein responsible for keeping the skin tight and smooth and has the ability to partially reverse the aging process if stimulated.

Difference Between Juvderm and Restylane:

Restylane (Medicis) and Juvederm (Allergan) are sterile gels consisting of non-animal, cross-linked, hyaluronic acid (HA) and are made in a laboratory. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in skin. They contain no human or animal DNA and have the best safety profile of all the fillers currently on the market. These products are FDA approved for use in the nasolabial folds also known as marionette lines. Juvederm causes less puffiness for the first few days after a treatment.

For filling in under-eye bags and lip enhancements, Juvederm and Restylane are both effective fillers that will provide natural looking, smooth looking results. Juvederm is a smooth gel made out of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that the body makes to maintain skin water content, that lifts the skin and reduces age sinking skin. Restylane uses the same specially formulated clear gel to visibly enhance volume and reduce facial wrinkles and folds.

Depending on the area treated, your skin and the injection technique, Restylane and Juvederm will last 4 to 6 months.  In some cases duration of the effects can be a bit shorter or longer. Juvederm Ultra Plus and Perlane are thicker and last approximately 6 to 9 months. It’s immediate, but it can take a few days to settle.

There are several dermal fillers available today and each has its own distinct properties. These fillers are primarily used to fill in and smooth out superficial to deep wrinkles, as well as augment, enhance and improve the volume of certain facial features.

What happens on the day of the procedure?

On the day of your procedure, you will be numbed with a topical numbing cream for thirty minutes.  This helps make you more comfortable during the procedure.  Dr. Rokhsar will discuss your goals and you will work with him throughout the procedure in order to obtain your optimal cosmetic result.  You will be able to see results immediately and results last between six and nine months.

Is there any downtime?  What are the side effects.?

There is no medical downtime with Juvederm.  You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.  Some people experience mild bruising and swelling.  Both of these side effects resolve within a few days and can be reduced with ice.  A benefit of hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm is that if you are not pleased with the results, the material can be dissolved with a second injection.
